Gerald L. DeLung, 75, of Fort Smith died Sunday, May 5, 2002. He was born Sept. 18, 1926, in Huntington, W. Va. and was the only child of Ronald DeLung and Bessie Atkins DeLung. Mr. DeLung attended public schools in Huntington and Marshall College of the same city. He served in the Pacific Theater of Operation during World War II. Following occupation duty in Yokohama, Japan, he received his law degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and served as president of the Tennessee Chapter. He also served in the Judge Advocate Corps during the Korean War. Following graduation from law school, Mr. DeLung was a deputy prosecuting attorney in West Virginia and later served as a landman and attorney for numerous oil companies including Gulf Oil Company, Samadan Oil & Company and Humble Oil Company. He was a member of the law firm of Warner, Smith & Harris, PLC from 1966 until his death. He served as a director of the American Association of Petroleum Landmen, president of the Fort Smith Association of Petroleum Landmen and co-chairman of the Arkansas Oil & Gas Institute. He was a member of the Sebastian County and American Bar Associations. He was a member of the First Christian Church. Mr. DeLung is survived by his wife, Marcia of the home; two sons, Brian Gerald DeLung and wife, Rosie of Fort Smith and Kevin Matthew DeLung and wife, Jamie of Greenwood; three grandchildren, Gregory and Lynde DeLung of Fort Smith and Collin DeLung of Greenwood. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in fort Smith with burial at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith. Pallbearers will be Jack Shields, Clyde Goins, Pete Peterson, Dick Sias, David Cordell and Gregory DeLung. Honorary pallbearers will be attorneys with Warner, Smith & Harris Law firm. The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
