*Obituary

Louis William Knittig, 79, of Conway, Arkansas, died peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, Jan. 8 from complications related to heart and kidney failure. He spent his last days comforted by family, friends and his faith.

He was a beloved father, dedicated member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and an alum of Subiaco Academy. He was also former post commander of the Conway chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, connected to his distinguished service in Vietnam during the war as an Army engineer.

A certified horticulturist, Lou, as many called him, was known as a giant of a man-- humble, helpful and engaging; highly respected for working long, hard hours outdoors. He did so skillfully, positively impacting a wide swath of people and topography along the way, as a surveyor, landscaper, farmer, groundskeeper and public utility worker.

He is survived by his brother, Ed; and sister, Lona Weisenfels; three sons, Luke, Lance and Jacob; two daughters, Krista Spainhour and Amy Shaver; and five grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary; Barbara Roth, his wife for 34 years; two brothers, Charlie and Gene; and three sisters, Agatha, Marie Zaloudek and Rose Enderlin.

His memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 13 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Conway, rosary at 10 a.m., and visitation at 10:30 a.m.
