Mr. Oliver Quinton Couey, 70, of Fountain Hill, passed away on
Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the Ashley County Medical Center in
Crossett. He was born on May 1, 1941 and raised in Fountain Hill. Mr.
Couey graduated from Fountain Hill High School in 1959 and he
received his Bachelors Degree in Business from the Monticello A&M
College where he was a member of the Phi Lambda Chi National
Fraternity. He was a member of the Army National Guard Reserve. He
worked as a Vice President at Farmers Bank in Hamburg and in 1971 he
moved to Monticello as a Vice President for Union Bank. While in
Monticello, he served as President of the Kiwanis Club. In 1974, he
moved to Crossett where he owned and operated the Couey Chrysler,
Plymouth, American Motors and Jeep dealership. He later moved his
family to Wheaten, Missouri where he owned and operated the Junction
Quick Stop. In 2008 he retired and moved back to Fountain Hill. He was
a member of the Fountain Hill First Baptist Church and a former member
of the Hamburg Jaycees. He worked hard all of his life and was taught a
strong work ethic at an early age. He worked with his two sons while they
were youths at the family dealership teaching them the same strong
work ethic. He was devoted to his family, he loved people and he loved
interacting with his Fountain Hill friends on a daily basis.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Quinton Couey in 1994
and Rachel Mears Couey in 1990 who were life long residents of
Fountain Hill.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia Ann Morgan Couey of
Fountain Hill; two sons, Oliver Quinton Couey II, his fiancAC., Rhonda
Lawson and her daughter, Sunni Jo Lawson, all of Fountain Hill and
Morgan David Couey, his wife, Juna, and their sons, Aaron, Austin and
Garrett Quinton Couey, of Ridgley, Missouri; a brother, Phillip Mears
Couey of Hamburg; two sisters, Nancy Foote Spivey of Hamburg and
Cheryl Wilson and husband, Charles, of DeWitt and an aunt, Mabel
Couey Thompson of Dallas, Texas.
Funeral services are 11 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the
Fountain Hill First Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Elton and Rev. Bill Wright
officiating. Burial will be in the Flat Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers are A.B.
Wood, Charlie Rice, Michael Bearden, Shane Smith, William Foote and
Danny Courson. Honorary pallbearers are Sonny Jones, Russ Meeks,
Larry Barnett, Mark Engelkes, Bubba Gilmore and the members of the
Fountain Hill Coffee Club. Memorials may be made to Fountain Hill First
Baptist Church, PO Box 265, Fountain Hill, AR 71642
