Friday, March 13, 1903
CARDWELL, Harlen L. - Harlen Cardwell, died Sunday evening, March 8, at 7 o'clock at S.R. Stokes' hotel, aged 18 years. Deceased was a son of James Cardwell, who formerly resided a mile north of Springdale, and was an exemplary young man, loved and admired by all who knew him. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock in the First Baptist Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.A. Smith. Immediately after the services the remains were interred in Bluff Cemetery. The sorrowing family have the sympathy of the entire community.

Harlen L., born July 11, 1884, died March 8, 1903, aged 18 years, 7 months and 17 days. Deceased was the son of James and Arizona Cardwell. Harlen professed faith in Christ in 1884{?) and joined the Baptist Church of Springdale on October 15 of the same year. He lived an exemplary Christian life and died in the faith. It seems hard to give up one so young and so full of promise of usefulness but the Lord knows best. It was better for him to go home where he will rest in peace and joy than to live in a world of sin and sorrow. He was held in high esteem by all who knew him as was shown by the large number of people who attended his funeral, and the many words of commendation spoken of him. His body was interred in Bluff cemetery to await the resurrection morn. His Pastor.
