Funeral For Widely Known Man Is Held - Dr. O. M. Bourland Is Buried At Fairview With Hundreds Of Friends At Service
Funeral service for Dr. O.M. Bourland, widely known Van Buren man, who for more than 50 years was a leading physician of Western Arkansas was held from the family home on Drennen street, Van Buren Friday morning at 9:30 o'clock, with Dr. W. B. Miller, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Van Buren in charge. Dr. Bourland died Thursday morning, after a brief critical illness. Burial was in Fairview cemetery with the Ocker Funeral home in charge. Pallbearers were John Q. Allen, John W. Blocker, W. R. Kennedy, Will T. Reynolds, Frank D. Pape, Henry Pape, Lynch Creekmore and Dunham Scott. Hundreds of friends of the Bourland family, pioneers in Western Arkansas attended the service for Dr. Bourland.
Dr. Bourland was the last of his immediate family, three sisters and two brothers having died several years ago. He was a graduate from St. Louis College of Medicine and was a post-graduate of Vanderbilt university at Nashville, Tenn. and Columbia university in New York City, and until he retired from active practice following an illness five years ago, he attended all meetings of the various medical societies and many clinics.
Dr. Bourland is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ada Quaile Bourland: two daughters, Mrs. Frances B. Brown and Mrs. Clarence Kidd of Van Buren; a son, Quaile Bourland of Van Buren; and a grandson, Clarence Kidd, Jr. of Van Buren.
