Ernest "Ernie" F. Long, age 82, of Mountain Pine, died Wednesday, April 25, 2018. He was born on January 6, 1936 in La Harpe, Illinois, the son of Arlie David Long and Reva Maye Carnes Long. On September 28, 1984, he married Anita Cate. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Betty Dunkin, Margaret Keane and Arlene Bane. Ernest was Methodist in his faith, but most important to him, he was known as a Christian. He was a supervisor for Blackmon-Mooring CAT Restoration Company throughout the world and they participated in the cleanup of the World Trade Center in 2001. Ernie and Anita gardened together and sold their produce at the Farmers Market several days a week in the 7 North area. He was a self-employed painter and Anita joined him after she retired from banking, they painted houses in the Hot Springs Village and surrounding area. Ernie loved spending time with his family and traveling with them during the summers. He is survived by his wife, Anita Long of Mountain Pine; one son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Karen Long of Hesperia, California; one daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Steven Picard of Hesperia, California; one step-son and wife, Keith and Debbie Thomson of Hot Springs; a step-daughter and husband, Becky and Steve Linder and step-daughter, Michelle Thomson, all of Hot Springs; ten grandchildren, Chad Picard, Dustin Picard, Amber Bettley, Tyler Long, Breanna Cannon, Aaron Linder, Lacie Fowler, Billy Marsh, Dakota Thomson and Chad McKinley; nineteen great-grandchildren, with two on the way; one brother, Arlie Long, Jr. of Galesburg, Illinois; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 2, 2018 in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs with Bro. John Swisher officiating. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
