*When Joseph Everett Fortner was born on December 12, 1812, in Wayne, North Carolina, his father, Richard, was 24 and his mother, Anna, was 18. He married Mary E. Taylor on October 13, 1853, in Lauderdale, Tennessee. They had four children in 10 years. He died on July 5, 1888, in Searcy, Arkansas, having lived a long life of 75 years, and was buried there.
