Mr. Kurt Horst Schmitt, age 82 of Mountain Home, passed away Friday, February 21, 2014 at his home. He was born October 30, 1931 in Mellrichstadt, Germany to Edouard and Margareta (Reder) Schmitt. He attended the University of Darmstardt in Germany, graduating with a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering. On February 10, 1979 he married Margaret M. (Gallagher) Schmitt in Boston, Massachusetts. Mr. Schmitt was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, the Ozark Earth & Science Group and the local Genealogical Society. He also competed and medaled in National Senior Olympic swimming events.

Kurt Horst Schmitt is survived by his wife, Margaret, a son, Lou (Sue) Schmitt of Mountain Home, a daughter Eileen (Rob) Schmitt of Campbell, California, four grandchildren, and a brother, Baldur (Ursula) Schmitt of Ketternschwalbach, Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church Building Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller Funeral Home.
