Three sons of Raleigh M. Owens fought in the Civil war. Two of them were killed at the Battle of Shiloh. Their bodies were shipped back to and buried at Owens Chapel Cemetery. This field stone marker is located between Louisa L. and Raleigh M. Owens. This field stone could be the marker of one of those two sons. Four of the older sons' names were Christopher M. born ca. 1838 TN, Tarpley D. (Topely) born ca. 1839 TN, Isaac birth date not known, and Hugh L. born ca. 1846 TN. The names of the two killed in the Civil War are not known at this time.
