When Christian Freidrich Wilhelm Rittman was born on May 6, 1836, in Venne, Lower Saxony, Germany, his father, Johann, was 35 and his mother, Marie, was 35. He married Anna Maria "Mary" Engel Meier on April 15, 1857, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They had nine children in 24 years. He died on December 21, 1884, in Stuttgart, Arkansas, at the age of 48, and was buried there.
