When Roy Jay Manley was born on July 2, 1911, in Lepanto, Arkansas, his father, Ivery, was 24 and his mother, Leaner, was 26. He had two brothers and one sister. He died as a teenager on June 22, 1930, in Memphis, Tennessee, and was buried in his hometown.
