When James Raymond Grissom was born on April 22, 1938, in Alabama, his father, James, was 26 and his mother, Sadie, was 24. He married Mildred Juanita McKinney in September 1958 in Colbert, Alabama. They had three children during their marriage. He died in August 1984 at the age of 46, and was buried in De Witt, Arkansas.
