Russell T. "Ted" Miles, Jr., 52, of Springdale died June 16. He was the son of Lillie J. and R.T. Miles, Sr. He moved to the area from Missouri in 1958 and his parents operated the Fayetteville Bus Depot from 1958-70. He returned to Springdale in 1970 and lived here for 15 of the past 19 years. A 1959 graduate of the University of Arkansas with a BSBA in business, he earned a MBA from Harvard University in 1961. He was a member of Betta Gamma Sigma, an honor society for business majors, and was listed in the Who's Who in the midwest in 1984. His entire career was in the life insurance industry. He held senior executive posts with major insurance carriers, most recently in a management assignment with a major foreign reinsurer, Cologne Life of Stamford, Ct., and management consulting and directorships. At the time of his death, he was on disability retirement as the former Vice President and treasurer of National Fidelity Life Insurance Co., Dallas Texas, a subsidiary of Temple-Inland Inc. He was a member of the Insurance Accounting and Statistical Association, International Claims Association and the American Society for Personal Administration. He was also a past member of Kappa Alpha fraternity, Harvard Business School Clubs of New York City and Tulsa and the Fellowship club of Springdale.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Rice Miles of the home; two sons, Douglas Miles and Daniel Miles, both of the home; and one brother, John Miles of Tulsa, Okla.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Sisco Chapel in Springdale with the Rev. Cecil Garrison officiating. Burial will be in Fairfield Memorial Gardens at Fayetteville.
Pallbearers will be Gil Baker, Ben Rice, Clyde Bowlin, Cecil Phillips, Bobby Phillips and Joda Roberts.
