October 28, 1928 - October 24, 2015
Mary Dean Carty, 86, of Mulberry, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2015 in a local hospital. She was born October 28, 1928 in Mulberry to the late Fred Hudson and Dolly May Carty.
She was preceded in death by her brother John Carty and her sister Betty Carty Eubanks.
Mary was a retired teacher for Waldron and Mulberry Public Schools, having taught business classes and typing to high school students. She also was the long-time sponsor and overseer of the school newspaper at Mulberry. Mary was a graduate of Mulberry High School and Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) in Conway where she earned bachelor and master's degrees in education. She was a life-long member of Mulberry United Methodist Church where she served the church in many capacities. Mary was a passionate fan of all Arkansas Razorback sports, the St. Louis Cardinals, professional tennis, gardening and reading. She was a life-longer learner and believed in the empowerment of education.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Mulberry United Methodist Church followed by interment in Mulberry New Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Survivors include Mary brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Marilyn Carty of Collinsville, OK; her beloved nieces and nephews and their spouses, Linda Eubanks Umphress (Joe); Ralph Eubanks (Margo); Scott Carty (Marquita); Dana Carty Rizzo (Rob); and David Carty (Tracy); 8 great nieces and nephews, 3 great great nieces and nephews and a multitude of close friends and former students.
Pallbearers will be Ralph Eubanks, Joe Umphress, Scott and Chris Carty, David Carty and Rob Rizzo.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dale and Mary Southern, Gerald and Sandy Primm, Clara Alverson and member of Mulberry United Methodist Church Women.
