Grocer and merchant from Lawrence County, TN. He enlisted in the 48th Tennessee Confederate Forces on the outbreak of the civil war. During the conflict he was wounded seriously twice, and was commended for valor at the Battle of Chickamauga. At the end of the war he and his family moved to Conway County Arkansas where he set up a large farm and served in the Arkansas state House of Representatives in the 22nd legislature.
