VAN BUREN — Bill Berna, 70, died Aug. 15, 2008, in his home. He was born Dec. 20, 1937, in Mulberry to Clifford and Mary Payne Berna.

He was of the Protestant faith and worked many years in the corrugated box industry before beginning a career in the funeral industry with Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home in Van Buren and retiring from Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville where he worked tirelessly in helping his son.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Annita Berna; a daughter, Janet Shepherd and husband Leo of Elkins; a son, Scott Berna and wife Paula of Fayetteville; a brother, Tommy Berna and wife Margaret of Mulberry; four grandchildren, Aaron Capps, Amy Capps, Colby Berna and Calli Berna; and two great-grandsons, Skyler and Haden Capps.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Butterfield Assembly of God Church in Van Buren with the Rev. Ronnie Gilmore and Jon Hamby officiating. Graveside committal services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Fairview Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to Butterfield Assembly of God Church or to Peachtree Hospice.
