Thomas W. Martin, 87, of Russellville, died Saturday, September 27, 2014 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. The son of Thomas and Elizabeth Louise Dixon Martin, he was born January 1, 1927 in Granite City, IL.

Thomas was a United States Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. Serving at Headquarters Squadron of the 2754th Air Force Base, he received training as a Rawinsonde Operator, working in the field of radar-based weather detection.

Following the war, Mr. Martin studied Ag-Forestry Wildlife at the University of Missouri, Columbia and received his B.S. in 1954. Mr. Martin's career as a Wildlife Refuge Manager with the United States Department of the Interior's Fish and Wildlife Services Bureau, spanned 25years. Mr. Martin managed refuges in the Southeastern District of the U.S. including, Florida, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas and Georgia, until he retired in 1983.

He was a member of the Audubon Society, Wildlife Society, National Wildlife Federation, National Wildlife Refuge Association, Southeastern Association, Wildlife Society and Tri-County Conservation Alliance in Florida. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he occasionally taught the Carden Sunday School Class.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an avid reader. He also enjoyed Sudoku and he loved to cook for family and friends. In addition he played duplicate bridge and was an official bridge instructor and competed in many tournaments with his wife.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Martin of Russellville and her children and grandchildren; daughter, Pamela (Nick) Cintia, Stuart, Florida; son, Wayne Martin, Azle, TX; grandchildren, Elizabeth Martin and Brice Martin, both of Azle, TX, Nicole Cintia (Jason) Tracey, Cape Coral, FL and their 3 children, Teagan, Emily and Beau. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George Martin

Memorial Service will be held at 10:30AM, Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at First United Methodist Church Chapel. Rev. Gail Brooks will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. Inurnment will be at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 304 South Commerce Street, Russellville, AR 72801
