Ardell Cleason Garner of Dolph, Arkansas

Ardell Cleason Garner, son of the late Roy Garner and Opal Watson Garner, was born November 11, 1927 in Oxford, Arkansas. He departed this life February 20, 2015 in Calico Rock, Arkansas at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 9 days. He was united in marriage to Barbara Tomlinson February 19, 1995 in Violet Hill, Arkansas. He spent his life as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, sailor, provider and friend. He served in the United States Navy, during three wars as a fleet meteorologist. In 1945 he was honored as Sailor of the Year. He retired after 34 years of service. He went on to teach meteorology at the University of Oklahoma, retiring after 10 years of employment. He was of the Methodist faith and a member of Forrest Chapel Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years: Barbara Garner of Dolph; one daughter: Tonya Garner of Conway, Arkansas; one stepdaughter: Kimberley Yustus and husband John of Dolph; one sister: Wanice Beckett of Searcy; two grandchildren: Joshua Dallas Yutsus and Paige Alyssa Yutsus both of Dolph; numerous cousins and a host of other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death his parents and his first wife: June Garner.

Funeral service will be Friday, February, 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Calico Rock Funeral Chapel with Raymon Carneal and Beth Kratchovil officiating. Burial will be at Forrest Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Calico Rock. Visitation will be Thursday, February, 26 from 6-8 p.m.
