WHITESIDE, John Henry - John Whiteside, aged 55 years, died at his farm home two miles southwest of Gentry early Sunday morning. He was well known thru out the Gentry section where practically his whole life had been spent. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Tuesday afternoon, the pastor, Rev. Joe English officiating. Besides his widow he is survived by four sons: Ernest of Gentry, Lloyd of Denver, Earl and Hugh of Tulsa; also by three daughters, Miss Clara Whiteside of the home, Mrs. Roy Martin and Mrs. Sam Adkins of Gentry and by two brothers, Will and Sam Whiteside and two sisters, Mrs. John Harrison and Mrs. Eli Gaines and other relatives.

Again we are called upon to chronicle the passing of another of this section's well-known and highly respected citizens, death having put an end to the earthly career of John H. Whiteside at the family home southwest of Gentry last Sunday morning, Sept. 7, after an illness of but a few weeks. Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist church Tuesday afternoon with Revs. D.F. Lillard and Joe W. English officiating, followed by interment in the Flint cemetery under the direction of Carpenters Bros. John Henry Whiteside was born at Gentry, Ark. June 19, 1872 and spent his entire life in and near Gentry. On October 29, 1893 he was married to Mary Jane Fox at Springdale, Ark. To this union nine children were born, two of whom departed this life in infancy. The widow and seven children survive him, besides two sisters and two brothers. The children are: Mrs. Sam Atkins, Mrs. Ray Martin, Ernest and Clara Whiteside of Gentry; Hugh and Earl Whiteside of Tulsa, Okla. and Lloyd Whiteside of Denver, Colo. The sisters are Mrs. Eli P. Gaines and Mrs. John Harrison of Gentry. The brothers: Sam and Will Whiteside of Gentry. Besides these are a large number of more distant relatives. All the children were present at the funeral but Lloyd Whiteside who had left but a few days prior to the death of the father for Colorado. He was a faithful companion and a true and loving father, always looking to the welfare of his loved ones first. Having spent his entire life in this community he was the possessor of a wide acquaintance and his worth as a citizen and friend was recognized by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He was a member of the Baptist church, having been converted to the christian faith in early manhood and remaining a faithful member throughout the remainder of his life. The sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved ones in their sad hour.
