SPRINGDALE — Joe Safley, 88, of Springdale, Ark., passed away Friday, April 6, 2012, at Circle of Life Hospice Home in Springdale, Ark. He was born in Van Buren County, Ark., on April 3, 1924, a son of Luther and Flora (Carey) Safley.

Joe married Iola Henry in Dardanelle, Ark., on March 26, 1949. He was retired from J.B. Hunt, was a member of Elmdale Baptist Church and was an avid fisherman and hunter.

He was survived by his wife of 63 years, Iola Safley of the home; three children, Jim Safley, Connie Wilkins, and Deryl Safley and wife, Vicky, all of Springdale, Ark,; six grandchildren, Joe Safley, Jimmy Safley, Kenny Wilkins, Jennifer Taylor, B.J. Safley and Paul Safley; eight great-grandchildren; one brother; and four sisters.

Joe was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 9, 2012, at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Springdale. Pastor Tom Shaw will officiate the service with committal service to follow at the Bluff Cemetery.

Visitation Service will be held 4 to 6 p.m. today, April 8, 2012, at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Springdale, Ark. Online guestbook at www.backstrom-pyeatte.com.
