Dr. Thayer Dee Hendrickson, 96, of Greenbrier, Arkansas, died Monday, April 5, 2010. He was born September 2, 1913, in Greenbrier, Arkansas, a son of the late Thomas Cleveland “Mr.Cleaver” and Alic May (Woolly) Hendrickson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite (Whorton) Hendrickson.

Dr. Hendrickson was a retired veterinarian; and an Army Veteran. He graduated from Texas A&M Veterinary School in February 1946; and was a member of Arkansas Veterinary Medical Association 1946- 2010; serving in many positions including president for the AR-VMA. He was also a member and secretary/treasurer of the Arkansas Board of Veterinary Examiners 1969-1974, being nominated by the late Governor Orval Faubus.

He established two existing veterinary practices in the state-Bellvue Animal Clinic in Little Rock and Faulkner County Veterinary Clinic in Greenbrier. Dr. Thayer was voted Veterinarian of the Year in 1961. He served in many positions including vice-president in the national organization, American Veterinary Medical Association; and taught ophthalmology at Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine

He was a member of Greenbrier First United Methodist Church, and served on many boards and committees during his long and dedicated service to his beloved church; even singing in the choir even into his early nineties. He served on the Board of the Arkansas United Methodist Foundation since its inception in the mid 1980’s.
A member of the Conway Rotary Club, he led the club with seventeen years of perfect attendance at there weekly meetings; and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow in 1991.
He was also a long time member of the Greenbrier Senior Citizens; and the Greenbrier Masonic Lodge. He also had a great interest in preserving the history of any organization he was involved with including his church and veterinary organizations.

He is survived by his daughter, Martha Butler and husband, Danny of Van Buren; a sister, Geraldine Stevens of California; brothers, Walter Hendrickson and wife Barbara of Lakeland, Colorado; Carlos Hendrickson and wife Evelyn of California; granddaughters, Susan “Toni” Lockhart and husband Andy; Shannon Gordon and Husband Steve, all of Van Buren; great-grandchildren, Anita, Bryton, James, Katie, Beth, Hannah, John; great-great grandchildren, Jeidyn, Macenzie, Farrah, and Benjamin.

Visitation will be 6-8:00p.m., Thursday, April 8, 2010, at the funeral home. Funeral will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, at First United Methodist Church in Greenbrier with Dr. John Farthing officiating. Burial will follow in Republican Cemetery, under the direction of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home of Greenbrier. 501-679-2575.
