Rogers teenager drowns in lake
A Rogers teenager drowned Tuesday evening in Beaver Lake, according to the Benton County sheriff's office.
The body of Alfredo Caballero, 16, was found about 7 p.m. in less than 10 feet of water near the boat dock at Horseshoe Bend Public Use Area.
Caballero either jumped or was pushed from the dock, according to witnesses at the scene Tuesday.
Sheriff's investigators were at Rogers High School on Wednesday morning trying to find students who witnessed the drowning.
Alan Bland, park ranger with the Army Corps of Engineers, said Tuesday that two men from a group with Caballero made an effort to save him.
"A couple of guys went in after him, and he grabbed them and started to pull them down," Bland said. "They got away from him and before he could get back to the dock, he was under."
School records show Caballero planned to be on the football team at Rogers High School as a sophomore next year, according to school officials.
