ROGERS — Floyd LaGrand Phillips, 78, of Rogers died Feb. 20, 2002, in Rogers. He was born April 30, 1923, in Rogers to Clarence and Elta Newkerk Phillips. He moved to Clifty in 1962 from Savannah, Ga., and was a member of Clifty Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as deacon for several years. He retired from the Air Force after 21 years of service as a technical sergeant and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He worked for Campbell Soup for many years, and he enjoyed farming and fishing. His wife, Mary Phillips, preceded him in death.
Survivors include four sons, Floyd Darrel Phillips and wife Wanda of Bentonville, Don Phillips and wife Jan of Rogers, David Phillips and wife Euva of Springdale and the Rev. Daniel Phillips and wife Wanda of Tulsa, Okla.; two daughters, Carol Schmitz and husband Charles of Tonganoxie, Kan., and Laurie Cox and husband Lathen of Clifty, two brothers, Cleo Phillips of Rogers and Jackie Phillips of Cave Springs; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers with Dwayne Lane officiating. Burial will be in Rogers Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Northwest Arkansas Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be grandsons Floyd LaGrand Phillips, Joshua Phillips, Adam Phillips, Nathan Phillips, Ben Phillips, Travis Phillips and Jonathan Phillips. Honorary pallbearer will be grandson Kevin Phillips. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Clifty Freewill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 388, Rogers, 72757.
