GENTRY — Laura Kathryn "Kay" Backer, 71, of Gentry died May 6, 2004, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. She was born Sept. 3, 1932, in Siloam Springs to Clyde E. and Authalene Mount Jenkins. She was a longtime resident of Gentry and was a graduate of Siloam Springs High School. She attended John Brown University. She taught art and was an accomplished musician. She was a member of Gentry United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Lewis B. Backer of the home; three sons, Jack L. Backer of Decatur, Clyde Lee Backer of Rogers and Virgil Wooten of Cincinnati, Ohio; one daughter, Barbara Kay Dart of Gentry; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Gentry United Methodist Church with the Rev. Carolyn Doering officiating.
Cremation arrangements are by Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs.
