Capt. John H. Hawkins was born on Mar 30, 1825 in Tennessee. He married Rachel Richards in Saline County, Arkansas on Nov 23, 1851. He and his wife Rachel were the parents of five known children; John Cicero, Nancy Holland (Mitchell, Sarah E., Mary Rachel (Ramsey) and Havey Ann Hawkins (Sanford).
Family records say that his son John Cicero Hawkins owned the land that Holly Creek Cemetery is located on and that John H. Hawkins was the first one buried in Holly Creek Cemetery. He served in Co. B, 25th Infantry Unit of Saline Co., Arkansas during the Civil War.
