LT. COL. WARREN PAUL HOOVER, JR., USAF (Ret.), 85, died on March 14, 2006, at John Knox Village in Lee's Summit, Mo.

H e served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force for over 26 years and later served 16 years as an Air Force civilian. During WWII, he was a B-17 pilot credited with 52 missions, including the first shuttle raid to Russia.

He was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, and Air Force Commendation Medal. later he was awarded the Civilian Meritorious Service Medal.

He was a deacon at First Baptist Church of Lee's Summit and a member of the Wahabi Shrine Temple of Jackson, Miss.

Paul was preceded in death by his son, First Lt. Thomas Lee Hoover, who was killed in action in Vietnam. Also preceding him in death were three brothers, Howard, Jack and Jim.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Ann Hoover; his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Ed Herrington of Kansas City, Mo.; and his son and daughter-in-law, Mitch and Cindy Hoover of Lathrop, Mo. He also leaves two grandsons, Scott Knox and wife Hilary, and Jeremy Knox, and a granddaughter and husband, Jill and Shane Sanders and their children, Aubree and Asa; brother Gary Hoover; and five sisters, Mary Morgan, Helen Nichols, Betty Huffman, Bobbi Loriaux and Rita Capps.

It was Lt. Col. Hoover's wish that memorials be sent to First Baptist Church, Lee's Summit, Mo.

The funeral and burial will be in Eureka Springs on March 20, 2006, under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 1 p.m., and the funeral at 2 p.m. A memorial service will be held in Lee's Summit at a later date.
