On the courthouse lawn are a memorial to the pioneers of Mississippi County, "who suffered hardships and endured privations," and an eternal flame flanked by monuments to veterans of the World Wars, Korea, and Vietnam. Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Edgar H (Buck) Lloyd is buried on the courthouse grounds.

Erected by the American Legion Dud Cason Post No. 24 to preserve the memories and incidents of our associations in the Great Wars and in the Honor of God, Country, and our deceased Buddies.
